Historically, Macromedia (which was subsequently bought by Adobe) has played down Director ever since Flash came out. Flash is an excellent tool for some things, but there are other areas where addding that functionality to Flash would make Flash less usable, and in which Director already has leverage – this includes desktop applications and 3D.
